Tyburn Plans For Middle School

In 2002 Fr. Albert Shamon, the founder of Tyburn Academy, started urging the Board of Directors to include a middle school in their plans for growth. At that time Tyburn’s facility was too small to consider his recommendation.
With the acquisition of the new Clymer Street facility the interest in middle school resurfaced. After researching the strategies of other area private high schools whose programs were rejuvenated by adding middle school grades, such as CBA and Bishop Ludden, Tyburn officials realized that middle school would be an attractive feeder program for grades 9-12.
In the meantime, some parents in the community organized a request that Tyburn consider adding grades 6-8 so their children could have continuity in their transition from middle school to high school and maintain friendships through 12th grade. This was a major factor in the board’s decision.
It is not the intent of the Tyburn administration to compete with the other middle schools in the city. Though competition is good for high quality education, each middle school has its own charism and unique opportunities so that the diverse needs of area children and families can be met.
In middle school, our goal is to prepare students to excel in the challenging academic setting of high school. We approach this goal by limiting class size, offering specialized attention and challenging students to grow to their potential spiritually, academically and socially.
Plans are now underway to open registration for grades 6-8 for the fall of 2008. For more information, interested parties may call 252-2937 during school hours.
